Wheat imports to Indonesia had tripled in the previous 20 years to 7.7 MMTA in 2014. It was expected to exceed 10 MMTA within the Banten grain was the main import terminal for the populous and economically important area of West Java. The terminal had a grain import capacity of approximately 0.8 MMTA. Pelindo launched a phased expension programme aiming at a stage 1 throughput of 2 MMTA, eventually increasing to 3 MMTA in stage 2. This would be achieved by strengthening of the jetty, more mechanised ship unloading systems, increased storage capacity in silos and the shed and additional conveyors.

The scope of work comprised detailed design of the grain import terminal including the strengthening of an existing jetty, all bulk materials handling systems, silos and sheds.
