Pinghu Oil & Gas field - subsea pipeline scour

China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC) was developing the Pinghu oil & gas field in the East China Sea.  Oil was brought from the offshore field to the downstream facilities located on an island via a 10″ oil pipeline.  After the installation, a failure of the protective rock berm had been observed on surveys and HR Wallingford was called upon to provide specialist assistance.

Scope of Work: assessment of scour development in the cohesive soil around a protective rock dump for a seabed pipeline. Assessment of long-term stability and advice on design of pipeline cover.

Project executed while Jesper Damgaard was employed by HR Wallingford.
