GASCO 4th NGL train seawater cooling
As a part of the Integrated Gas Development (IGD) programme, Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Ltd. (GASCO) was constructing a 4th Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) Train in Ruweis, UAE. The seawater cooling system is an integral part of the 4th NGL Train project as it will provide process cooling for the main plant. It is a once-through cooling water system comprising offshore intakes, offshore supply pipes, pumping station, manifold, discharge pipes, discharge structure, sealing weir structure and outfall structure.
GASCO appointed Target Engineering Construction Company as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contractor for the seawater cooling system. Target, in turn, appointed COWI as the engineering designer for the project.
Scope of work covered all disciplines: marine & coastal, structural, geotechnical, hydraulic, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation:
- Studies including:
– hydraulic design of seawater cooling water system
– sediment ingress modelling
– determination of hydrodynamic forces on intake riser - detailed design of:
– Water Intake RiserÂ
– Pump House
– Mechanical EquipmentÂ
– Discharge Structure
– Weir Structure
– Outlet Structure
– Sea Water Intake Pipes
– Supply Pipes
– Return Pipes - Setting up the entire system in SmartPlant
